What Should I Wear for My Photoshoot?
Ah yes, you have booked your photoshoot with me and now you’re wondering what you should wear. The more photos I take, the more I realize how important it is to inform my clients with tips and tricks to get the most out of their photoshoot.
Be comfortable. If you are wearing something that you feel looks great, but you’re not the most comfortable in it, chances are that the discomfort is going to transfer on to the photo. Find that outfit that boosts your confidence and allows you to relax. You will see the difference in your photographs.
Avoid busy patterns. Solid colors are always best for your photoshoot. Busy patterns tend to distract your eye from what’s most important; your beautiful face! Now that doesn’t mean that you cant wear any kind of patterns, just make sure that if you do, you keep them to a minimum. When choosing solid colors, avoid wearing those that will clash with your skin color. Super bright colors tend to reflect on lighter-toned skin, making your skin color slightly saturated.
This is border line camouflage!
Avoid logos. Large logos will distract from your photograph. Unless you’re getting paid to promote these companies, you dont want to advertise for them :).
Coordinate your outfits. When taking photos for two or more people, you want to make sure that your outfits will match without going over board. What do I mean by that? You have all seen the pictures of couples who have purchased the same shirt but in different sizes. Not only does that look awkward, but it takes away from the individuality of the subjects. Pick a color pattern that compliments each other and mix and match. Before your photoshoot, put on your outfit, look in the mirror, and ask yourself if you blend in or pop out.
Yikes!
Have fun! Let your personality shine through. These are photographs that you will cherish for many years to come. Try your best to look your best! Layers make your photo pop and give it more visual interest.
Bring a change. If you are someone who can change quickly, I strongly encourage you to bring a change of clothes (unless you are booking a Mini Session). This is the best way to get the most bang out of your buck! It will be like two photoshoots for the price of one. You will have a wider range of photographs and therefore, more than likely to have a lot of great options!
Whatever you decide to wear, just make sure you are 100% happy with your choice. Even if you decide to go completely against my recommendations, if you are happy with what you are wearing, that happiness is going to transfer unto your photograph!
